- If I rent from a particular location, can I drop the vehicle off at another location?
Unfortunately, Ryder does not offer one-way rentals. Our rental vehicles must be returned to the original location that you picked the vehicle up from.
- Can I pick up a truck from a different Ryder location than I normally use?
Of course! You may choose from any of our 500 locations to rent a vehicle. If you are a billing customer, the reservation process will honor all of your profile information, no matter what location you reserve at. However, all Ryder rentals are round-trip only and must be returned to the original pick up location.
- How do I add another reservation?
There is no limit to how many reservations you can make. Call Ryder Customer Service at 888-997-9337 to reserve the rental truck your need.
- Does my business insurance cover my rental?
When it comes to business insurance, every policy is different. While you can use your own insurance coverage, it is important to understand that many policies do not provide complete coverage. In fact, in many states and provinces, your automobile insurance may not cover commercial rentals at all. If your insurance policy does not cover the rental or offer enough coverage, you may be required to purchase one of Ryder’s rental protection options.
Even if your policy provides coverage, if your vehicle should be disabled, you will still be faced with coordinating vehicle towing, calling in the claim, filling out paperwork, securing a replacement vehicle, and possibly even paying a higher premium. In addition, you must consider the liability exposure of property damage and personal injury claims that could be costly to your business. With Ryder protection coverage, we take care of everything. To learn more, ask your Ryder Sales Representative for details on Ryder coverage options and pricing.
- How do I cancel my reservation?
At Ryder, we want to make cancelling a reservation as easy as possible. If you would like to cancel your reservation, contact Ryder’s Customer Service at 888-997-9337 for assistance.
- What is a CDL?
The acronym CDL stands for Commercial Driver's License. This type of driver’s license is required to operate any vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of more than 24,200 lbs. or 11,000 kg. This type of driver’s license and these types of trucks are primarily used for businesses that employ professional drivers. It typically does not apply to consumer customers.
- How do I change my reservation?
Changing your reservation is easy. Contact Ryder’s Customer Service at 888-997-9337 for assistance.
- How do I know how many days I’ll be billed when I reserve my vehicle?
Ryder defines rental periods by calendar days rather than 24-hour periods. This means that your charge is calculated based on the number of days rented rather than a 24-hour clock. So, if you pick up your vehicle at 4 p.m. today and return it at 4 p.m. tomorrow, you will be charged for two days. We encourage you to arrange your pickup dates and times with this in mind.
- Is a deposit required for Ryder rentals?
For all non-billing clients, a deposit is required. In order to secure your rental vehicle, Ryder will require a credit card deposit. Remember to bring a valid credit card with you when you pick up your vehicle. We will authorize the deposit on your credit card, but you will not be charged until your rental transaction is complete. For your convenience, we accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.
- What do I need to know about Diesel Exhaust Fluid?
As a result of 2010 EPA-mandated technology changes, new environmentally friendly trucks with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) engines require the use of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF). Combined with upgraded emission systems, DEF may improve your miles per gallon of diesel fuel, while reducing polluting emissions. Just like diesel fuel, DEF burns as you run the vehicle, so it must be replenished on similar cycles. Be sure to pay close attention to warning lights and refill the DEF tank as needed, to maintain the minimum DEF fluid level. You can refill the DEF tank at any Ryder full-service fueling station or at larger truck stops. Please ask your Ryder rental sales representative about Diesel Exhaust Fluid when you pick up your vehicle as usage and refill options vary by market and Ryder location.
- How early can I pick up a rental vehicle?
We know that your business day starts early, so we’re open by 7 a.m. Monday through Saturday at most Ryder locations. Before you pick up your vehicle, it’s always a good idea to call your rental location to confirm the location's business hours. We also offer flexible after-hours pickup times for commercial billing customers. If you’d like to learn more, ask your Ryder Sales Representative for details or call 888-997-9337 for Ryder Customer Service.
- What kind of identification will I need to rent a vehicle?
When you’re ready to rent a vehicle, make sure you have 2 forms of identification: your driver’s license with photo ID (with appropriate endorsements for the vehicle you will be driving) and at least one other form of identification (credit card or other government issued ID). Ryder accepts U.S., Canadian or Mexican Driver’s Licenses. If you are a non-billing client, Ryder Truck Rental will require a credit card deposit that you will be required to do at the counter at the time of pick up. For your convenience, we accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. If you are a commercial customer renting a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of more than 24,200 lbs. or 11,000 kg., you will need to provide your CDL.
- Do I need to provide insurance for my Ryder rental?
To ensure that your commercial rental vehicle is covered, Ryder requires proof of rental insurance at the time of pick up. If you cannot provide proof of insurance or if your insurance policy does not offer sufficient coverage, you may be required to purchase Ryder coverage. The Ryder Protection Advantage offers both liability coverage and physical damage protection. These affordable coverage options protect you from the financial risk of vehicle damage or liability claims if you should be involved in an accident. Ask your Ryder representative to tell you more about coverage options and pricing. If you are a billing customer and your coverage is on file, this will be reflected in your account profile.

Ryder is pleased to offer you choices of 500 locations nationwide, so there's always a location nearby. When reserving a vehicle, please keep in mind Ryder rentals are round-trip only and must be returned to the original rental location.
